2024 Turtle Walks

The Environmental Studies Council hosts two sea turtle nesting walks at the Environmental Studies Center each summer. Join us at the Center for an educational lecture, while our scouts patrol the beach looking for a nesting loggerhead sea turtle. Once a turtle has been spotted, participants will drive to the beach to watch her nest.

About the ESC Turtle Walks:

Dates: Tuesday, June 18th and Tuesday, June 25th

Time: 9 p.m. until/if a turtle is located (RAIN OR SHINE!)

Location: Environmental Studies Center, 2900 NE Indian River Drive, Jensen Beach, FL

Attire: Mosquitos and gnats can be numerous on the beach at night, so long pants and a long sleeve shirt are highly recommended. Dark clothes are preferred. We may have to walk a ways on the beach, so comfortable walking shoes are also recommended.

Flashlights and flash photography are NOT permitted on the beach. We will not be returning to the Center, so please bring only what you can carry on the beach.

Because we can’t predict when a turtle is going to lay her eggs, we can’t guarantee that your group will see a turtle, but our team of biologists will do their best to locate one each night.

Children must be 7 or over. Each walk is limited to 25 participants.

Tickets are $12 for non-members and $10 for members.
